A traditional hotel in an ideal position within the old city walls and 10 minutes walk from the station (airport train about £2). Free internet vital during volcanis erruptions.

        Lack of a bar.

It was a very charming old world hotel with all the ambiance of old European luxury.

        10.0

The excellent central location; traditional charm and character of the hotel rather than bland and modern; good service and superb cuisine. Clearly there is some refurbishment work ongoing - but it was not overly disruptive.

Comfortable room with a little entrance hall which gave a lovely old fashioned but spacious feel. It was around -20 celcius while we were there but the room was always lovely and warm. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful and we were a few minutes walk from The Main Square and close to loads of restaurants and bars etc. We had a meal in the Hotel's restaurant on the last night as we had heard that it was one of the best restaurants in the city, however it was a bit like going back to the 1970s with the trolley being brought out so that meat could be chopped at the table etc and so many waiters that they were falling over each other-really entertaining and the portions are huge!

Only one British tv channel with no volume on the tv in our room.

      • Older travelers
        10.0

The location is perfect for all areas of interest. Staff at hotel are both friendly and without exception extremely efficient. The hotel could not have been a better choice for comfort, quality of food and ease of access to all local amenities. Our early arrival and late departure were no problem to the hotel and was much appreciated.

        Staff,breakfast,location.

Room 103 was at the top of the stairs leading to the reception area so we were unable to have a peaceful nights sleep due to staff and other guests passing our room throughout the night.

the location was excellent. The decor is grand and old fashioned if you like that sort of thing, except in the dining room where the walls have been scraped but not repainted. I enjoyed being the only guest at breakfast on one day and on the other days only 2 or 3 people there.

The staff I found snooty and not very helpful. It seems to me they are concentrating on the restaurant, it's just been bought by a polish tv chef. Upon arrival I found no mini bar or tea making facilities in my room, as advertised. I was told the fridge was broken and given a kettle and 2 tea bags, no coffee , milk or sugar. The shower was very weak, the tissue holder was falling off the wall, there were no toiletries supplied except one small bottle of shampoo. Upon leaving they offered to call me a taxi to the airport at a price of £6 more than crossing the road literally to the taxi rank. Compared to the other hotels I used on my trip it was overpriced and outdated.

      • Older travelers
        7.8

The hotel has an old-fashioned appearance which, depending on your point of view, can be very charming. The main restaurant and lobby seem to be in the midst of being redecorated but there was no sign of any on-going works. Once completed we thought that the hotel would be splendid. The breakfast spread was admirable. The position at the north end of the Old Town and closeness to the main railway station was excellent.

The mini-bar was empty and there was no trouser press which we saw claimed in the main tourist guide.

I love my food, and I know what I'm talking about. Stayed here because of good reviews about breakfast. They were true. It is the best breakfast ever, on par with Brennan's in New Orleans. Selections were odd to American guests and you had to experiment because not all dishes offered were good. The best choice is pastry--absolutely marvelous. My favorite, from hot items menu, was apples in pastry, which alone is reason to stay there. I rarely order or eat pastry, because I am rarely satisfied with the offerings. Anything with light flaky layers is divine; try the round things that look like small biscuits. I also had lunch and supper at the hotel restaurant. Lunch was a great deal, and the food was better (same dish in one instance) than supper. Try the cream puff, you will order more.

This is a popular venue and it is not easy to get a room, particularly a cheap room. I found other fine lodging through Booked.net that was more economical, but did not include breakfast. If you do stay elsewhere, try to eat at Gessler's restaurant. I don't know if they offer breakfast to the public--but do treat yourself to the marvelous food.

Charming and historical hotel with excellent location, 5 minute walk to the City's Old Square. Reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff. Also, probably one of the best restaurants in town right downstairs.

The furniture is a little outdated and the interiors of the room need a little "face lift"...

Excellent location, close to everything. First class restaurant and helpful staff. Olde worlde charm very appealing. Room bit small but comfortable. Bathroom large and clean. Overall our stay very good.

the place has style and charme and a friendly atmosphere. Free tea, coffee and cakes/sandwiches in the late afternoon, the restaurant is excellent foodwise (but not servicewise), good location

some of the staff although friendly need some more training, some waiters in the hotel restaurant were somewhat hopeless, the curtains in the rooms need attention, they do not keep the light out. noise on the street Friday and Saturday nights

      • Group of friends
        9.2

Nice, old arcitecture. Very friendly and able staff.

Noice from the street outside. All rooms were located to the street, with traffic and people talking late at night.

      • Group of friends

Hotel Fancuski is very well located in the hart of the old city. It has kept its old grandeur and the comfort of its rooms is more than sufficient for a city trip. We would certainly return to this hotel for its great breakfast (buffet + hot meals included in room rate).

The district is rather noisy. Do bring your earplugs with you.

      • Older travelers
        8.4

Comfortable bed, location so close to everything but away from noise.
